DIAMOND WILLOW IS MUCH LIKE YOUR COMMON WILLOW WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT WHERE THE LIMBS DIE OFF THEY LEAVE A DECAY IN ITS PLACE THAT LOOKS LIKE THIS.....(0).....THIS IS THE DIAMOND.....THE SAP WOOD IS WHITE AND THE INNER WOOD IS A BRILLIANT RED....WHERE THE DIAMOND ARE, A CARVER CLEANS OUT THIS SPACE TO REVEAL THE DEEP REDNESS OF THE WOOD.....SOME LIMBS HAVE MANY DIAMONDS .....SOME HAVE VARIOUS SIZES.....IN THE LOWER 48S YOU WILL FIND SOME D.W. BUT THEY ARE A FAR CRY FROM THE ONES THAT GROW IN CANADA AND ALASKA....THIS IS DUE TO THE SEVERE WINTERS.....A LOT OF CARVERS GO UP THE ALASKAN HIGHWAY IN THE SUMMER JUST TO COLLECT THESE STICKS......HOPE THIS HELPS

Does diamond willow grow large enough to become a tree or does it pretty much stop about 8' to 12' tall? I never heard of it before reading about it in here.
