Bill Judt,
I have carved several of your patterns, and am carving your angel
pattern now, either out of one of your books, or the eagle head in the
WCI magazine. I do like your style.
I plan to carve the Fruit of the Spirit pattern in your last book. It
measures 17" high by 13" wide. It is a large tree on the right side and
top, with most of the bottom and the entire left side flat in order to
chip carve text on it. This large flat portion will be reduced 1".
I have a set of 4 flexcut 1" standard gouges. The one I use most is the
1" #3 sweep. In your opinion, will this be large enough to remove the
large section of wood, or would it be better with a 1 1/4" or 1 1/2"
gouge? I don't need speed, just versatility.
