[Woodcarver] red Ceder

Hi Brad,

I like carving red cedar and I carve a lot of it. It can be a little tricky,
especially in areas around knots, because sometimes the grain will take
little unexpected dips and turns. I think it holds good detail in the red
"heart" of the wood, but the whiter "sap" wood can be a little soft and
needs very sharp tools to detail properly. One of the reasons I like it so
well, other than having a lot of it in my area, is that each piece is going
to turn out different because of the differing levels of contrast between
the white and red. A lot of the Indian faces I carve are done in cedar
because the contrasts sometimes make it appear like war paint. As long as a
person takes the time to adjust with the occasional  crazy grain changes it
can be a fun wood to carve.
