Jelutong is the wood I favor from the Orient. It is wonderful to carve, except for the
fact that its related to the rubber tree and has hidden pitch pockets. They can be
fixed easily with wood putty, etc. I purchased a huge piece, 4"x16"x16' in the 1980's for $250. The first carving I did with Jelueong was a chickadee and it paid for the huge plank I had. I STILL have about 3 feet left. Try it, you'll love it!
