Hi Larry,
It's going to be difficult keeping moisture out between the basswood and
white oak frame. Capillary action will pull the moisture in and it will take
forever to dry out because the air can't get inside. Trying to create a
watertight seal might work for a while but as the weather hits it and the
wood expands and contracts at different rates it is going break the seal
allowing water to get into the crack. I think your best bet is to create
vents that will allow it to dry out as fast as possible.
