Hello fellow carvers,

I just bought a new carving stone, one side rough th other smooth,
I wasWondering how to condition it, can i use a light coat of sewing machine oil on the smooth side or would this ruin my stone? any input would be gladly appriciated.

FOR MY TWO CENTS WORTH. THE BEST TOOLS I HAVE FOR CLAY IS THE SET OF TEN ON MY HANDS, NEXT IS A LENGTH OF MONO FISHING LINE TO CUT THE STUFF, AND THEN A BUNCH OF WOOD TOOLS I SHAPED FROM SCRAP HARD WOODS TO WIGGLE AND MOVE THE CLAY ABOUT. I HAVE ALSO MADE SOME BY FORMING STIFF WIRE WITH A TOURCH AND ATTACHING TO A HANDLE. COST NOTHING TO SPEAK OF BUT PLENTY OF ENJOYABLE TIME SPENT MAKING THEM. REGARDS, STEVE
