[Woodcarver] Tools

Hello,
I have owned Marples tools in the past, they were solid and well
constructed, but as they ship from mthe factory they are ground to a shape
but not sharpened. They are also ground to about a 40 degree angle. I order
to make them usable, you need to have the patience, knowledge, and equipment
to re-grind them to the correct angle, then hone them. I sold them and never
even tried. It would have taken days of work on a flat stone, and I have
been tols once this work is completed, the edge does not stay sharp for
long(second hand knowledge).
I would avoid them. I own a set of full size and a set of palm tools from
Stubai, and I cannot say enough positive about them. I love the tools, and
if you can only buy 1-2 at a time, it is well worth the wait.
Having said that, I also own the 11 peice Flexcut travel set. This set comes
with 10 chisels/gouges/veiners/v-tools, and one handle. I rolls up to a
about 3" long and 2" thick. I keep it in my pocket when I am at camp with
our scout troop. Its perfect for that, and the tools are good quality for
hadheld carving.
Good Luck,
Daniel Heine
