Bob and others about FC chipping......over the past 4 years, I have power stropped and sharpened hundreds of FC knives, and its my experience that the older knives, the ones that do not have the red dipped handles with their new logo stamped on them, hold up much better than the new blades.......i think its either a poor quality control system (maybe even produced across the pond) or a new manufacturer that did or does not conform to the older qualities due to mass production....any one of these factors could influence the final product......i have found tho, that with a little (or maybe a lot) of patience, you can bring the edge back to working order.....the v's are the worst to bring back sharp.....i think ive had only a hand full that i had the carver take back to the place he bought the knife, and they got a new one......that doesnt mean that the problem has gone away....but its just another angle to put in the back of your wonderful minds......and yes they are really ment for soft woods rather than hard HARD woods.....carve on and God Bless

I have seen several broken Flex Cut tools. The sharp portion is hard tool steel just like any other manufacturer. They are forged to a spring steel. The problem is it doesn't take too much grinding to loose the hard steel and get into the soft flex steel. And then it won't hold an edge.
