 hi folks,

ironwood, there three types in australia.

ironwood ... backhousia myrtifolia hook, common name grey myrtle
(2) erythrophleum chlorostachys anironbarkwood ...all hardwoods. Hard hard and extremely dense.
used on pallets, heavy engeering construction, poles sleepers, wharfage.

carving on this type of wood is like carving on steel, thus when i do carve these extremely hard timbers, a very short bevel on the tool, and sharpened like a wedge, giving the tool the cutting power and not breaking the tool. hope this helps.
cheers
maricha
