Hi all,
I also have a little personal story about meeting President Reagan that I
cherish.
He came to Pensacola, Florida for as brief campaign stop. A call went
out for cheerleaders to go to the Airport to help in greeting him. We
took our 6th through 8th graders which included our cheer leading team of
some 18 young ladies ( I never believed in tryouts and cutting anyone
out) and drove out to meet his plane.
In preparation I had my 8th graders each write a prayer for him and his
presidency and we compiled these in a folder (28 of them).
When we got to the airport we found as huge crowed but our girls were
allowed to line up on either side of the plane's boarding ladder and
await his coming off.
A Secret Service agent came over and said (very seriously), "Are you Mr.
McCain?"...."yes"..."and you have something for President Reagan?....yes!
"May we see it?...I showed it to them. Then they told me to wait on
the top of a fire engine parked there and the President would come over
to me. He did. I greeted him and wished him God's great blessings and
gave him our booklet of prayers. He thanked me while still holding my
handshake and said he would read them on the next leg of the trip.
Nothing to do with carving I know but I know how Reddog's son feels!
Paul
