Lynn,

Your carving vise design is great. I use a similar vise but I like
yours better.

I have mine clamped on a hydraulic lift table that I can raise and
lower as needed. I can use it sitting down or standing, fine tune
the height as I'm working on different parts of a carving and roll it
around the shop. I use it to move doors and other carvings around by
myself. The table is available from Harbor Freight for a reasonable
price and is one of the most used tools in my shop.

For relief carvings I use a portable a "workmate" style vise that I
have removed from the legs and attached to a tilted support that I
clamp to the hydraulic table . For small in the round carvings I
clamp a smaller carving vise in the workmate vise.

Be sure to look at the incredible nature inspired art jewelry hand

take a look!
