  Hi All

I have only recently discovered the joys of wood carving and have nearly completed my first piece, a small table top. I live in Cape Town South Africa.

The problem I am having is in keeping my chisels sharp especially the gouges. I was wondering if anyone could help me with good sharpening info ( do and don'ts) as well as the various angles that need to be considered, I am currently sharpening on a oil stone and the polishing on 1200 grit water paper followed by honing on leather. I have been able to find a lot of info on wood turning chisels but not sure if these angles were suitable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Regards

  Solly Schoultz
