I use my air drive for a lot for carving mostly intermediate detail bulk removal. I even have modified a car body air hammer to use as a air chisel for bulk wood removal. Took the four point that came with the air gun and reshaped them for wood and they work fine.
The high/low valve you have on the compressor is to set a constant delivered pressure to the low side. This in most compressors is accurate to aprox. 3% + - of the analog scale where you set the pressure, unless you have replaced the gauge with a higher quality gauge. There is one caveat when working with air tools on wood..... most air tools are not meant to be operated at a pressure above 100 - 125 lbs. of working pressure. Some woods are not receptive of high speed rotary tools so you must pick your battles by wood type, the harder the wood the slower the progress, the drag from the wood will increase with the hardness of the wood material - and of course will slow down the speed of your pass. The recycle rate of the compressor will not, in my experience, cause you a problem the recharge of the tank does not affect the air passed by the Hi/Low gauge
hope this helps.

Good morning to all. This is my first post to the list. I am a beginning carver and have a question regarding the use of rotary tools. I have seen Dremel tools and more expensive, but similarly styled rotary tools advertised for use in carving. I do not have one of these tools but do have an air powered rotary tool that runs off of my stand-up air compressor. I am wondering if this would be an appropriate tool to use for small statue carving. The air compressor has an adjustable outlet psi. I am afraid, though, that even though I can control the top end of the outlet pressure as the pressure decreases I will lose rpm's. The compressor will allow the psi to drop to a certain level before turning on and refilling. Will this be a problem?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
