I ocassionally use my air compressor for carving. The drop in compressor 
pressure is something
that you learn to live with. I've found that you can't really do any 
'hogging', just take small cuts.
I've used both my die-grinder, angel-sander and also have modified some of 
the tools for use
with the power chisel.
I don't have a Foredom (that most will recommend). I started with a Dremel, 
then went to
Weecheer. I still use both.
