Susan,
I agreed to lead a 1 hr seminar for our club on relief carving. I made 2 landscape
carvings from patterns from your Landscape book previously and am currently working
on another one from your book. In preparation for last Sunday's seminar, I reviewed
your on-line tutorial on relief carving using the sailboat picture. I used that
picture, copied it for each club member and had them color in the 4 distinct carving
levels. It was a great eye opener for most of them as they never thought of your
method of defining the various levels in a relief carving and then numbering each
sub-layer.
Thank you for your step by step tutorial as it gave me lots of information to give to
the club. I also passed out small blanks and had them try different forms of texturing
by using a gouge / V-tool and rocking it back and forth while pushing it forward.
You really saved the day for me and it gave my club a basic idea on what relief carving
is. Since your web site is on the picture I handed out, I hope some of them will
visit it.
Thanks for your help,
Dave Andreychek
member of YORKARVERS wood carving club in in York, PA.
