Hi Merrilee

"Face Side" is a term we throw around in the furniture trade. It means the
good side of the board(or the side which will be on the display on the
finished piece, for example a drawer front). In Jean's case I assume the
face side will be the inside of the open book (open at 60 degrees - inside
measurement). I use the face side ( pencil marked with an "F") to make sure
I'm always referencing measurements from the same side when cutting joints.
