[Woodcarver] Painting question

Mike:

I used to use Mike's method, taught to me by Ron Wells and still do quite
often. However, I like Pete Leclair's method because it helps me get a more
even finish on my Santa figures. I paint that eyes first before dipping the
painting the carving with Linseed oil. No it doesn't stop the bleeding of
the paint. If anything, it might even make it bleed more easily. However,
if you score the areas with the tip of your knife and there will be no
bleeding.

As I always advise, try both methods on a piece of scrape and see which one
you like the best. There no teacher like experience.

Have a great evening!

Hello folks,

I apologize to anyone who's seen this on the
Woodcarving Illustrated message board.

I've got a question about painting. I read in one of
Pete LeClair's books that he dips or paints his
figures with tinted boiled linseed oil before
painting. In his book, Mike Shipley paints then dips.

I was wondering, if I dip my figure in the boiled
linseed oil first and let it dry, will the paints run
less and cover more evenly when I paint?

I do have some sealer I can use but I'm wondering
about the boiled linseed oil. I've also heard about
soaking the figure in water but it takes me a while to
paint so I'm afraid it would dry out before I
finished.

Thanks in advance,
mikeg
