I have made some enhancements to the original design on the pipe vise that makes it hold considerably better. It involves cutting some "V" cuts across the face of the pipe Tee at the angle that you want the hold the work in.
I have the pictures and designs on the following page

I use mine quite a bit.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello all!
I need some information for a friend. She is carving an 18" or so santa
and can't hold it. She is very cleaver at making things to fit her needs
and I have given her pictures of some of your vices in the past. She made
the pipe vice that was talked about here and was in the magazine but it
won't hold well and it doesn't move to other angles well. I thought I had
bookmarked a couple of your sites where you show your shop with vices in
them but "they" came and took my computer away and I can't find them now. I
also thought the Vice Guy (I think) had a nice looking vice that could tilt
your carving any way you needed to but is it strong enough to hold big
pieces. If someone has plans for vices that allow for movement of the piece
and is strong enough I would appreciate a copy of them. Thanks in advance!
Later, Merrilee
