IMHO butternut is SWEET.  Far and away my favorite wood.  Not only does it 
carve nicely, but it also is so beautiful I won't paint it.  It's amazing 
how much better my carvings look when the wood is pretty.  I just wish I 
had better access to it.  Then my wife would have more to holler at me 
about.  LOL   Not painting is a big plus with me.  TTYL
