I believe that in wood carving competitions this is possible, to work up
through the ranks in essence. If I am incorrect I am sure that someone
will enlighten us both. I would add here that if I did this, and I am
speaking for myself only, once I found the show level in which my piece
first 'losses' that is the show and show level in which I would continue
to compete when I next considered entering. I wouldn't return to the
lower level shows but work to improve my craft to a prize winning level
at that upper show. That way I would be stretching my art and my
expertise to earn that level of awards instead of returning to something
I already had done and could already do.

Susan,
I wish I'd said that! hehe. You really put it out there, plain with
sensible and useful information. Thank you. I hadn't thot about art
shows for paintings. I've done that on a small scale, too., and you are
absolutely right. The smaller more local jurried shows I was in
required
that the painting had to be done within a year of the show. If I
understand you correctly, one could take their winning piece from the
smaller more local shows and progress to bigger and tougher competition
until beaten or reaching the very top.

thanks,
Cynda
