Cynda,
There are several free programs available for manipulaing/resizing digital
photographs on the internet, but they all have a learning curve. As a former
website developer I can tell you there is a great deal more to making a
picture webpage ready than just changing the size (assuming you want it to
look good and not take an hour to load on a slow computer).
The software that comes with most digital cameras is usually fairly easy and
will give reasonably good results without having to learn about all the
technical stuff. The person who took the pictures may be able to use their
program to adjust them to the size you need.
Another very good option is to try to locate someone who has a strong
interest in doing computer graphics design that would be willing to help.
There are many high school and college students who aspire to be graphic
artists or web designers some day. I have found that they are typically
eager to get the chance to work on a real world project that they can add to
their portfolio and will often ask for nothing more than allowing them to
place a link or logo on the page stating that they worked on the design.
Check with family and friends, church groups, school teachers, etc.. and
someone will likely know of someone near you.
In the mean time if you just have a few pictures, I would be willing to
process them for you. Assuming they are not too large to email them to me
(my email provider limits the size of attachments). Send each picture
seperatly as an email attachment and tell me what the finished height/width
should be and I will scale them, make the necessary color corections, and
return a JPG image that is optimized for a good balance between file size
and image quality.
