[Woodcarver] When should a carving be retired from competion?

I tend to agree that I feel somewhat uneasy when I see a very good first
time entry get beat out by a multi award winning work, but as many shows are
independant and set their own rules it would seem very difficult to enforce
a standard.

Many shows do place some restrictions, I guess the best short term solution,
in my mind, is to educate the organizers of the competitions and support the
shows that make resonable accomidations to allow for everyone to have a fair
chance within their skill level and style catagory.

A longer term solution is to become more organized and establish judging
standards with santioned shows where these pieces progress to higher level
shows, and cannot compete at the lower levels once they have progressed.
They could then continue to be shown at that level, but would eventually be
beaten by something better.
