While you're waiting for basswood to arrive, check your local quality lumber 
yard (the ones that cater to contractors) for "Sugar Pine" or "Ponderosa 
Pine"...comes in various thicknesses.  It's a 'finish lumber' used for inside trim, 
cabinets, mantels, etc.  lovely wood to carve.   Rip
