Ray:

I have a home made machine that is very similar to the one that Chipping
away sells. I like the fact that it has a small footprint since I use it
when I'm carving at our booth at Silver Dollar City, as well as other
places. It is small enough that it is easy to pack along. I attached a
small shaped leather and a buffing wheel to mine for the insides of the
tools. Works pretty good. The only negative thing I have found is that the
leather belts stretch out of shape pretty quickly.

Hope this helps you out.

Here's an inquiry regarding sharpening systems. The adv in the latest issue
of WCI about the Ultimate Sharpening Machine being offered by Chipping Away
and tested by Roger Schroeder in the same issue. Does anyone have
experience with this tool? Roger's test indicates that the tool will
sharpen AND hone, but doesn't mention burr removal on the inside of gouges.
It looks like a good tool, it has a small footprint and the price seems
OK. If the leather belt can polish the inside burr off from the bevel side
of gouges, it would be a very useful tool. In any case it should be
excellent for keeping a fresh edge. Appreciate any feedback, thanks; Ray
