I am actually back to some carving tonight after a few weeks of home
improvements......

I scrollsawed out about 15 ornaments that now need to be chip carved. I start
with some of the Christmas ornament patterns that can be carved as well as sawn,
saw out the outline and perhaps some other areas on the ornament, then chip
carve the rest. I will put them aside now until later in October when I am down
in VA spending a week with others from our church doing home repair work.
Carving in the evening is a great pasttime and chip carving doesn't take up much
room in the bag. The ornaments will be donated to the New England Woodcarvers
to see for the "tree of Hope" to raise money for Boston Children's Hospital. I
think we have been doing that project for about 12 years now and have donated
over $11K to Children's Hospital to date.

Then tonight I started working on some "pumpkin stacks", carvings of pumpkins
that are stacked atop each other, 2-4 pumpkins high. Each gets a different face
carved in it, and sometimes the top pumpkin gets a hat to top it off. Often one
of the lower pumpkin gets "squashed" look to it, and the facial expression
reflects that as well. Our church will be having a fall festival selling real
pumpkins, baked goods, etc, so these will sell right along side of them.
