Well, I have taken on my most ambitious commission yet....an 18" statue of the goddess Athena with a 6" base. The base is designed as a Greek column and will have the lettering, "Palladium" incised within the scrolled area. I'm using basswood and will bleach the finished carving, giving it, (hopefully) a porcelain-like look. The finished carving will be used as a trophy for a college football rivalry. I'm really excited about this commission, but am also pretty intimidated by it and find myself procrastinating (like sitting at the computer writing this post :) ) I enjoy the challenge of commissions, and found this one too neat to pass up. I'm fairly confident that in the end I'll turn out a passable carving...once I get over the trepidation...and thanks to a good supply of coffee and TUMS :). I'm keeping a photo log of the progress (?) on webshots at http://community.webshots.com/album/188351486LnTMZJ if anyone wants to take a look.
In addition to that I'm carving lots of Santas, wood spirits and a few other commissions. Busy is good! :)

Hi Mush

Having acquired one of your small detailed Santas in the Marnie auction, and seeing the size of this piece is at least 3 times the size and should be easier to detail, I have no doubt of your ability. Now quit fishn' for compliments and get to work. The world needs more of your art in circulation.
