For a beginning carver, after blocking out a figure, animal or caricature
carving, what area do you start detailing first?
This question was brought up the other day and I just assumed that it was up
to the individual. Any other suggestions? Top - down? Front to back?
Thanks

Hi Jimmy B
when i started carving i would block out a side view pattern then i would
remove small amounts of wood and work through the whole vision and to check my
work i would take breaks to make sure i was seeing what i was seeing and
that it was working the way i wanted it too. also keep a the pattern or drawing
your working on in view so you can check your work often it really does help
to refresh the vision. so i guess what I'am
trying to say is just start with a small cut and let the learning begin.

best wishes
 Glenda
