Hello Robert:

I just recently bought a cute little router attachment for my Dremel. It was made by Dremel and will fit most models. It was not expensive, and it works like a darn!

Many thanks to all who answered - I was checking that I'd thought of all the possible ways of doing the job , and I hadn't ;>)

I'll look into laminate trimmers - they're widely available in the UK but the RotoZip , although available , is a relatively uncommon beast , so prices and availability of bits may not be good . I'll have a look , in case .

All things being equal , I'd prefer to use a hand tool , such as a veiner , and keep that more intimate contact with the wood . I can also work in the kitchen that way , instead of my unheated workshop :>) I'll experiment with a narrow and deep home-made veiner - I've got some tool steel that should do . Perhaps with the wings ground back it will cope when deeper down in the groove . If it works , I'll let you know . Surface chipping won't be a problem for me - once the groove is resin filled I will put the bowl back onto the lathe and skim off the outside sufficiently to remove any damaged surface and excess resin . The lower portions of the walls of the groove must be smooth , however , since these will appear when I cut a new surface on the inside of the bowl . Enough - my cunning plan is being exposed too soon ;>)

In the meantime I'll make up a holder for the Dremel so that it's got a router type base and see how that fares .

Thanks to all of you - it's my first time on this list and it's been a great opening experience .
Happy Yuletide to one and all .
