I believe you will find the Porter-Cable trim router would be the better
tool for this. It takes only 1/4" shank router bits and is designed for detail
work. I use one to cut inlets for door hinges, etc. It is frequently used to
trim the plastic coating on kitchen counters. It has three attachments so you
can get very close to the back splash when working on the back side of the
sink.
