Hi Mark,
Since you asked for my 2-cents worth, I would suggest:
The Woodcarvers Roundup in Evart, MI June 15-18, 2005. We have over
500 attendees from all over the USA make the trek. It is located on
the Osceola Fairgrounds and the teachers set up in the fair buildings.
Registration is free. The student only pays for the wood or items
needed to take a class. The principle was designed for people that
wanted to learn woodcarving WITHOUT laying out a huge investment in
tools just to find out they didn't like it. The event has taken on a
life-of-its-own and other Roundups have sprouted up because of it. It
is a very informal setting. There are things for non-carving spouses
to do as well. Evenings are filled with musical jam sessions or
sitting around the campfire carving or whatever.

The Woodcarvers Roundup in Evart is preceded by the Michigan Exposition
June 11-12, 2005. We have a Michigan Woodcarvers Association of which
36 clubs are members. The clubs set up tables in the fair buildings
and show and sell their woodcarvings. There are raffles and all sorts
of things associated with that. Last year, everyone was given a number
and they had to search through all the tables to find that matching
number. The number was attached to a little woodcarving and that was
their prize. It is what we call a scavenger hunt.

Then people have to scurry to get to the International Woodcarvers
Congress, June 23-26, 2005. I have never been there but several people
on this list can inform you about that. I think it is the oldest
running woodcarving show in the USA. It is well attended by top end
carvers. I would think that would be a definite MUST-SEE if coming to
the USA. Again, I have never attended. Maybe Big Dawg will speak up
on this one. He and Miss Carol are the MC's.

My apologizes to those I've missed. Please speak up and help Mark
schedule his tour.
Hope this helps.
Sally
(btw, when "replying" to the list, it would be better to delete the
parts of the digest that are not pertaining to your topic. It takes up
a lot of band width that the servers get bogged down with.)

Hello Sally and David:
Thank you for your 2 cents on the 2005 Carver's Conference. I would
have
like to meet you while I am there. Infact, I would like to meet as
many of
you who subscribeto the List. I've been told woodcarvers are the
greatest
people with the best personalities. Sally, can you tell me what other
major
carving events are happening this year? Thanks.
