Having just returned from a plane trip today I can answer this one. Pack 
all of the dangerous stuff in your checked baggage. They will confiscate 
it if it is in your carryon baggage.  I've been carrying knives and wood 
for several trips in the last year and have had no problems with it in 
the checked suitcase.
