[Woodcarver] Gluing some carved pieces to stained glass

Here's a question for all you knowledgeable craftspersons out there. As a
special present for a dear friend who recently lost her mother, I had a
stain-glass craftsperson friend create a "memorial" type stained glass window that I
have framed in cedar. I carved a cross and stylized bird out of cedar and want
to attach both pieces to the glass. I don't know what type of adhesive to
use. I'm afraid that if I use the wrong stuff it could cause the glass to break
if the wood contracts or expands. I thought maybe some type of silicone would
be in order but again, I'm not sure. The glass is absolutely beautiful and if
it cracked I'd be heartbroken. Any ideas or suggestions?
  Thanks!!
Ed F.
