Hi Kevin,

If those 400 to 500 figures are close to being the same design there are
rough-out machines on the market. I've never tried them but one that comes
to mind is Dupli-Carver from Wood Carvers Supply Inc. 800-284-6229.

Many times a simple band saw can get the waste off quickly. Besides the band
saw, table saw and drill press I use about 15 other power tools for wasting
wood. I show them all and how I use them in my article on pages 40-43 in
issue 8 of Carving Magazine. Over 90% of my work is hand chisels but I don't
hesitate to get a power tool out when its going to save me time.
