Hi Barbara. I have not done a lot of what you are looking for but have done some on the lateral line on fish. Actually, I first read about the technique in reference to bumps on frogs and veins on horse heads, etc. What you do is to use the ball on a stylus to depress the wood in areas where you want it raised. Then you sand the surrounding surface down to the level of the depressed spots or lines. Then you wet the wood with water and the areas that were depressed raise up. I know this works well on Tupelo wood but I would advise experimenting with some scraps of whatever kind of wood you are using and with varing amounts of pressure to see what results you get.

Hi
I am looking for the procedure to create raised areas on wood carvings of frogs, lizards etc.
Read about it on the list a while back, but lost the term for looking up the procedure.
These are dimple raised areas.
