Hi Sally!
I know what you mean about these birds! I haven't had the privilege
of hosting a nesting group, but I see them almost every day in the
summer. I think they would be an excellent candidate for a project. I
think their form would lend itself beautifully to a sculptural
presentation...sleek lines that make the bird look like it's flying even
when it is standing still <G>. And the colors are a classic combination
of rich siennas and dark blues (Look at many impressionistic
paintings...you'll see a frequent combination of blues and
oranges/siennas). Uh-oh....you've got me planning one
already...something you'll recognize...the 5-star idea...LOL.
Hmmm...perhaps two projects..one flying and one perched....
Thanks again, Sally!
Lori

I hear from the bird carvers at shows that we don't see Barn Swallow in
the carving world because they are difficult to design. The sleek lines
of the body with the very small head tucked down into the body (more or
less)......but "especially" the forked tail. I guess the tail scares
them off more than anything. Lori, we would love to see you bring some
awareness to this sweet little "unrespected" bird.
