Further to what Ivan has to say:

About this secondary bevel: I use the term "micro bevel" to describe  
the small bevel I place of the inside leading edge of a gouge or  
veiner  (skews and chisels are handled differently) using a hard  
Arkansas slip-stone. The micro bevel can be seen with the naked eye  
but only under bright light.
