Bill, you and your wife will love Alaska.  I came here in '76 from Ct. for a 
2 week visit and forgot to go back.
The "Inside Passage" this time of year is a wondrous thing and one that 
you'll never forget.  I live just south of Ketchikan in Metlakatla on 
Annette Island.  Annette Island is the only Indian reserve in the state of 
Alaska.  I consider myself very lucky to be in the midst of some of the 
great Native Arts carvers.  Wilson was right about being able to buy 
carvings just about  everywhere.  When you get to Ketchikan, see about 
taking the tour to Saxman.  There they have a famous Native carver, Nathan 
Jackson, who is generally working on a totem pole.  You might even be able 
to take a tour over here to Metlakatla as starting June 1st a group will 
start conducting tours directly from Ketchikan. Write me off list and I can 
give you a general idea of what to expect.  I do know Hugh, the "Skincarp" 
enjoyed his trip.  :)
