heh there "Stevie wonder of Alaska"--this response gives me an excuse to 
commun. again with you in such a far-away-place---I certainly cannot answer your 
?--but would humbly suggest to cut off a sample piece of each wood--put thru 
your planer or belt sander--then you can pursue your controlled experiment with 
a good chip knife---I use several different style knives to do this and find a 
short-bladed detail knife as my best friend rather than any of my so-called 
chip knives--but that's just me---telling you all this is like "teaching your 
grandmother to suck eggs"---you are a master carver and will come up with an 
awesome result for your Pastor I'm sure---warm regards--Hugh(skincarp)
