I took my family on a very similar path 2 years ago. In Gastown, (downtown Vancouver), there are a number of shops that have native carver(s) working on site producing some lovely native carvings of all types. In Banff, Jasper etc. I didn't seem to find anything that surpassed what I saw in Vancouver, although I did not go off the beaten track to look for specific carvers/artists.
You'll enjoy the trip, we did.

Since Bill R asked about Alaska and got some excellent help, let me ask about
our summer trip......(It's not that far away!)

My wife and I will be heading to Seattle for 2 days, then taking the ferry to
Victoria overnite, then on to Vancouver, and then by train to Kamloops and
Banff. We pick up a car in Banff and have a little time to explore that area
and end up in Calgary. Nowhere near enough time to do everything, but was
wondering if anyone has any specific First Nations or other carving sites nearby
that are good to visit? I know there is at least one store of Canada Art in
Banff, but other than that I have not seen anything listed for tourists.

We will be on the road 7/10-7/18 if there is anything that is time specific.

Thanks!	Vic H
