You don't need to do anything. You retain your rights to the design even if
you sell the carving. The buyer would need special permission from you to
reproduce it. There are even laws protecting art from being altered by the
buyer. For example, a buyer could not buy a painting, cut it into smaller
sections and sell the pieces as individual paintings.
