Hi Bonnie,
GOW (Gathering Of Woodcarvers) is an event that I host here at my shop in
Somonauk Illinois (About 60 miles west of Chicago). This next year GOW 2006
will be the week of September 18th. Campers begin pulling on on Monday
September 18. Monday evening we have a social (margarita seminar), where all
the instructors discribe the seminars they will be teaching, the cost of the
blank, etc. The seminars begin Tuesday morning and run through Saturday.
Many seminars are 1/2 day, some are 1 day and one or two can be longer than
one day. Half day seminars are $5, all day is $10, etc.... besides the cost
of the blank, pattern and instructors other expenses. Last year we had 13
instructors giving about 60 seminars. Some seminars are inside my shop and
garage but most are outdoors under tents. Camping is $10 per night and $5
for instructors. The seminars run all day. In the evening we have a blanket
trade (tool and supply swap), talks, whittling contest, music around the
camp fire, pot luck, chili supper (chili dump where you bring your own chili
and dump it all in one pot) and a hot dog night around the camp fire. My
co-hosts are my wife, Sharon (food), Sandie Roosa (event and camping) and
Bob Mau (seminars). Last year we had 120 people here and this year I'm sure
we'll have more. Everyone and their friends are invited. All you need to do
is reserve your camping space with Sandie Roosa outdoor1 at ulster.net if you
are camping. If you want to teach a seminar please contact Bob Mau
Basswood at aol.com .
The GOW is one of the smaller events with 120 people. Roundups like the
Evart Roundup have over 500 people with many more instructors and a bunch
more seminars running for 4 days or more. Sandy Holder
carouselcarver at hotmail.com is the main organizer for the Evart Roundup and
she could give you more information.

I agree. I started carving about three years ago, and if it were not for
the help, the support and the fellowship of this group, I probably would
have quit long ago. I love going to GOW or roundup and meeting most od you
in person. What a finhe group of human beings on this list.
Happy Holidays to all,
Dan Heine

Bill and the List family,
I and the whole Whillock family have, of course, experienced first hand
the powerful support of the carving community. Looking back over the past
years, as Marnie now is regaining her health, I'm convinced that your
support aided greatly in her recovery, and it's heartwarming to see how that
support continues still.
We all share a common interest, but, even more importantly, we share a
common humanity. I thank you for that.
Thanks particularly to Bill whose list provides a key to the fellowship
we all enjoy.
