[Woodcarver] resin

yes, I poured it on a relief yesterday but it has some rough spots and some running.  I thought i read that you can sand it and then ?? what to do with the spots it leaves and how to find a level spot so it won't go on uneven. and how many layers can i put on if it didn't get enough coverage the first time.
