Pat,

     Before you try sanding anything see if you can try this on some scrap.
The reason I say that is you WILL be sick of sanding thru progressive grades
of sandpaper and polish before you get back to transparent and if you stop
too
soon it'll be obvious. My advice, set up and fiddle with a scrap piece of
wood
first.
