Clive, I got to thinkin' & if you just want to use the Phi concept for
correct proportion, there is a simpler way.
Get a piece of graph paper & (in one corner) draw a rectangle that is 5
inches long & 3 inches high. Then draw a line from one corner to the other,
diagonally. Extend this diagonal. Now you can use this to get a correct
proportion (or close to it). If you have a piece of wood that is 9 inches
long it should be 5-3/8 high for a correct proportion.
This 5 by 3 proportion is used in many ways for sizing Credit Cards,
Driver's License, and pictures.
While not exactly mathematically correct, it's close enough to a correct
proportion to be pleasing to look at.
