Bill,
I don't think I joined in that first year, but I joined the list quite early 
in its inception.

I, too, offer my congratulations, and especially thanks,  not only for the 
list, but for your other contributions, including the ezine, that have 
resulted in international communication between wood carvers.  The value of 
your contribution, Bill, is not merely the list, but all of the ripples it 
has caused--the myriad side benefits of a carving community that has instant 
communication at its fingertips.

Think of the "side projects" the list has enabled, from publishing, special 
projects, and poetry.  (There are other things, too, that don't start with 
"p")
