[Woodcarver] braiding wood for a walking stick???

hi everyone,
  
  i have an interesting question!!!!
  
  has anyone ever braided wood shoots while it was still growing with the  sole purpose of it growing tight together and longer and then to  harvest it later to make a walking stick or something decorative too???
  
  has anyone ever done this before or seen it done somewhere?
