Haroun
We had a club member who made many canes from braided and twisted sticks
(green). He had made some by twisting or braiding the sticks in the
field but most were made by clamping and braiding in the workshop. He
used a block on the bottom with a clover shaped hole that held 3 sticks
and either braided or twisted the sticks to form the cane shaft. The
top ends were then held in a clamping system in a straight line. By
drilling the holes in the handle to place the sticks would hold the
shaft. In some cases he was able to get by with glue on the shaft and
others require some strategically placed brads. After setting the
sticks, he had to leave the shaft to dry so that it hold its shape.
