Hi Doug
I don't have any experience with Chicago lathes, but from several years of working at Woodcraft and answering many questions on lathes. The off brand lathes have one big problem, there are no accessories to fit them. If the lathe has a #1 or #2 Morse's taper in the head stock and tail stock and a standard thread on the head stock 1"x8 or 3/4x16 many options are open. Some lathes have metric threads or something not standard. The most common thing we hear is that someone have gotten this real cheap lathe at Harbor Freight, why don't we have anything to fit it.
That's my two cents worth.

Hi all,
If this is to far off topic please respond off list. I have a chance to pick up a "Chicago" brand lathe with Marples tools. I know for carving Marples tools don't hold an edge well and I would assume the same for turning. I know of the Chicago brand but don't know the quality of their lathes. Can anyone help ???
Thanks,
Doug Evans
