Hi Annie,
It looks to me like the carving in these squares was done with either a chip carving knife or a 60 degree "V" tool, probably with the knife. There are many makes of both tools available, buy good ones that will stay sharp for a decent amount of carving. Flexcut is a good place to start.

Hi Everyone.
I too would like to start carving. What I would like to start with are the quilt squares I saw on page 64 of this magazine I picked up called Ultimate Carving Patterns Collection. It is relief carving with simple straight lines. So, what you all recommend for tools and other supplies?
