Correct on the totem poles - western red cedar. There are quite a few
cedars - east & west. I've carved several of the western cedars; western
red, incense, Port Orford, and Alaska Yellow. My choices best to poorest
are; Alaska Yellow, Port Orford, western red and incense. Make sure you get
old growth wood to carve as some of the second growth is pretty brash.
